Incident Services
Leadership Development
With extensive experience on incident management teams and coaching at the highest level, Whittington & Associates can help you reach your leadership potential. We offer leadership workshops, simulations, and team coaching all designed to meet the needs of your organization.
The development of a team process where Command and General Staff can help build the common operating picture, freely ask difficult questions, and contribute to the development of the response strategy is the key to better managing crises and stress. As members become more comfortable within the team, they also become better leaders and improve their ability to effectively communicate.
Incident Expertise and Advice
When an incident occurs, assumptions are no longer valid. What happens if you do not have people available? How do you communicate if systems are down and critical infrastructure is compromised? Whittington & Associates is available to help you work through any incident. If we can't come to you, we will assist remotely with anything from a telephone call to a full suite of social media guidance and monitoring. The first incident call is always free because we know you need help quickly.
We also have a limited number of retainers available: when you need us, we will respond.
FEMA and NWCG Class Instruction
Training is designed in anticipation of the expected, while education helps to better prepare for the unexpected. With each class, Whittington & Associates not only meet the training requirements, but also provide knowledge gained from complex and dynamic incidents.
Workshops and Presentations
In addition to formal classes, we design learning sessions tailored to your concerns and audiences. For example, we created a 90-minute session for a federal agency centered around communicating scientific-based risk information to the media and the public. If you have a risk or crisis communications problem that needs a fresh look, please get in touch.
We have developed a workshop on preparing for fatalities and serious accidents. These incidents are a tremendous challenge and create internal stress like no other crisis. While we cannot give you a perfect formula, we can show you what to expect, how you can interact with families, and how to prioritize the internal and external actions you must take.
We also have a Learning Culture workshop. One of the tenets of a High Reliability Organization, a learning culture is empowering, improves morale, and challenges assumptions. This workshop starts off with lessons learned from serious accidents in the wildland firefighting world and then draws conclusions suitable for any organization looking to move past a blaming culture.
